Bihar Chief Minister on Wednesday called for a meeting at the legislative state assembly, whereby he declared some of the penalties are to be imposed on individuals if they break the law. These penalties come in place of the earlier direct imprisonment.
Bihar CM on ‘sinners’
Nitish Kumar who is the current chief minister of Bihar had passed a bill that imposes penalties in place of imprisonment . He called those people who consume alcohol to be sinners and further commented by saying Mahatma Gandhi considered alcohol to be a sin. He said after passing the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Bill of the year 2022.
He proposed for a ban of liquor in all forms as he considered alcohol to be a poison and those who drink it to be sinners. He further added to his statement that laws are initiated and are in place but nobody follows them.
As per reports, Nitish Kumar said, “somebody went to drink alcohol and died after drinking poisonous liquor, alcohol is bad.”
The bill that was passed on Wednesday gives the state assembly an upper hand to impose penalties to offences that fall under some categories instead of giving direct imprisonment. Here the state can now impose fines.
The bill was passed as a result of too many pending cases in court that keeps the court occupied.
