B. Borooah College is a prestigious institute and one of the oldest degree colleges in Guwahati, Assam.
Speaking to The North-Eastern Chronicle, an individual informed that the official college website was hacked by grey hat hackers around Tuesday’s midnight.
About the Hacker(s)
Grey hat hackers are essentially hackers who often look for vulnerabilities in a system without the owner’s permission or knowledge. If issues are found, they report them to the owner, they may also exploit a security vulnerability to spread public awareness that the vulnerability exists.
A message had appeared under the ‘Notice’ section of the college website earlier on Tuesday, November 9, it read, “We rock your website because it is vulnerable and G4UR4V007 was here. We are sorry to hack your website. We are just letting you know that your website’s security is weak.”
Issue appears to have been rectified
In the recent, the college website appears to be operating normally, as no such message is seen in it. It seems as though the hacker'(s) friendly implication to strengthen the website’s security was considered seriously by the authority.
As of November 11, everything on the college’s website seems to be in place.
About the College
The college had been named after Bholanath Borooah, a businessman from Nagaon. It is affiliated with the Gauhati University and, was established in the year 1943. The college “grew under the shadow of World War II and as a part of the nationalistic struggle against foreign rule.
Its pioneers first started it as a night college in order to give an opportunity to poor students to pursue their higher studies, as they earn their livelihood during the day.”
