The Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) has decided to launch an emergency flight service between Silchar and Guwahati for the next several days, which is welcome news.
The tickets are available from the DC office in Cachar and the ATDC’s headquarters in Paltan Bazar, Guwahati.
Due to the devastating floods, the connection between Barak Valley and the rest of the state and country has been disrupted.
The railway line linking Lumding and Badarpur has been blocked due to landslides caused by heavy rain. The uprooted lines and bridges have also wreaked havoc on a variety of rail infrastructure.
Due to increased demand, the cost of commercial aircraft tickets has significantly grown, making it difficult for the general population to pay such increased airfare costs.
Because of the great hardship that the general public is experiencing as a result of the sudden increase in airfares, the Government of Assam has decided to operate an emergency flight service between Silchar and Guwahati through the Assam Tourism Development Corporation at a subsidized rate of Rs. 3,000.
ATDC to sign MoU with Flybig
ATDC will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Flybig, which already provides regional connectivity in Assam and the Northeast States, as approved by the Cabinet.
Flights will be available on a daily basis beginning May 19. The flight from Guwahati to Silchar will leave at 5 p.m., with a return trip at 6:20 p.m.
Tickets will be sold at a separate counter at the DC Office in Cachar and the ATDC’s headquarters in Paltan Bazar, Guwahati. Tickets can be purchased by dialing the following numbers: 8135902973 and 8638023921.
