Assam to bring pass-fail system; Education Minister
As per reports, the decision was taken on Friday in a State Cabinet Meeting that was held in Guwahati. Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu said, “In the Right to Education Act, 2009, there were provisions of examinations from class 1 onwards, but the unsuccessful students could not detained in the same class. In 2019, the Assam Government had amended the act and accordingly the state cabinet today decided to take yearly examinations for students of classes 5 and 8. The unsuccessful students will be detained in the same class.”
Now, the rule states, the students who had failed a class will be given a second chance to appear for a special examination which can be held in a gap of two months, once the yearly exam results are out.” The minister adds, students who fail the second exam too will have to repeat a year in the same class.
The minister has urged for a change in the system as he believed, the earlier system severely affected the education system in the state.
