On Monday, December 6 Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Education Minister of Assam inaugurated student’s day home, Cotton University.
About the ceremony
Honorable Education Minister, Dr. Ranoj Pegu in presence of Prof. Diganta Kumar Das, Registrar and Prof. Bhabesh Ch. Goswami, Vice Chancellor(CU) inaugurated ‘Student’s Day Home’ at Cotton University, Guwahati.
The student’s day home is funded by RUSA( Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan).
The event was attended by a host of other attendees. The Education Minister was also seen addressing those present.
The need for a Student’s Day Home is a long standing one. The city sees thousands of students commuting to and fro from areas which are far from the city. The day home will provide them a respite and further attend their classes with ease.
About Student’s Day Home
A Day Home is an establishment where a student will remain for a set period of time during the day. Learning is a big component in day homes. It incorporates both education and entertainment, often combining two things at once.
So, the establishment of a government regulated day home comes at the most apt time.
RUSA
Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) is a holistic scheme of development for higher education in India initiated in 2013 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
This CSS (Centrally Sponsored Scheme) aims at providing strategic funding to higher educational institutions throughout the country. This was launched by former Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh.
- Cotton University erstwhile Cotton College, is the oldest institute of higher education in Assam and within the whole of Northeast India. It was established in 2017 by the provisions of an act from the Assam legislative Assembly.
- With a continuously evolving demographics, this step undertaken by the Government of Assam is sure to benefit all those students in the long run.
