On Wednesday, State-owned RailTel Corporation of India Ltd said it has executed an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based attendance system across Assam for 48,000 government schools.
Company’s statement
RailTel has finalized the work of using an artificial intelligence-based identification system for management of SDMIS (Student Database Management Information System) and capturing attendance for the government schools in Assam, in a statement, the company said.
“The system covers 48,000 schools in all 33 districts. RailTel has configured, customised, and deployed this AI-based identification system for capturing attendance across all the elementary, secondary, and higher secondary schools,” it added.
Project’s total expenditure
₹19.20 crore is the project total expenditure, out of which ₹12 crores is a single time cost being released after completion of the project.
“The cost for maintenance of the project is ₹3.96 crore per year with a scope of AMC for two years in the current scope of work. RailTel has completed this project in four months,” the statement said.

Citing about the project, MD Puneet Chawla and RailTel chairman said that with the pandemic rapidly changing the world, all significant sectors like education and health are staggering towards cutting edge digital technologies to adjust to the new normal.
