Assam Police from the Nagaon administration on May 21 demolish the residences of five families, suspected of setting fire to the Batadraba Police Station.
Earlier, on 20th May an enraged mob ransacked and set fire to the Batadraba Police Station in Assam’s Nagaon district following the claimed detention death of a local man.
So far Assam Police arrested 3 People
3 people have been arrested in connection with the attack on the police station, and two officers have been injured severely.
Safiqul Islam, a native of Salnabadi village in Dhing, was allegedly beaten to death because his wife failed to arrange the Rs 10,000 that the Assam police requested.
When the family returned to the Police Station with the money, the officers informed them that Safiqul had been transported to the hospital.
Safiqul was traveling to Sivasagar for business when he was apprehended by Batadraba Police at 10 p.m. on Friday, May 2o, according to his family.
The Batadraba Police Station Officer in Charge called his wife and requested her to come in the morning with a duck as a bribe.
When she arrived with the bird, they sought an additional Rs 10,000, according to Islam’s relatives.
According to the family, they discovered his body in the Nagaon mortuary and transported it back to the Police Station, where they began the protest.
As word of the tragedy spread, an enraged mob gathered outside the station, assaulted police personnel, and set fire to it.
So far, three people have been arrested in connection with the police station attack. Superintendent of Police Leena Doley of Nagaon has promised a thorough inquiry into charges made against Batadraba police personnel, as well as action against any officer found to be at fault.
