“Assam is going to be laboratory for mother tongue based education in India”, says Union Education Minister

There are over 150 ethnic languages and dialects witnessed all over the northeastern region. Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education Minister thinks that the state could be the flag bearer of language-based education under the new National Education Policy (NEP).

What did Pradhan say about the diverse language of Assam?

Pradhan mentioned that “About 180 languages being spoken by tribes residing here. The NEP has amplified the potential of language in education. Assam is going to be a laboratory for mother tongue-based education in India.”

What steps did Union Minister implement?

Pradhan also congratulated the government for giving much importance to the education sector by saying that, “I am glad that chief minister of Assam has prioritised key areas, such as education and health and has significantly enhanced the share of government expenditure (6% of GDP) on education.”

NEP 2020 was a visionary approach to transform the educational scenario of the country and to design strategies for its successful implementation.
