Assam’s daughter and the pride of India, Lovlina Borgohain from Baromukhiya Village in Golaghat won the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and brought the country the crown. She has been announced as a brand ambassador for the Assam Ministry of Education.
Ranoj Pegu’s justification to make Lovlina ambassador
The Minister of Education of Assam, Ranoj Pegu, announced the news on September 5. Education Minister Pegu stated that with Lovlina as the brand ambassador of the department, the education department of Assam will achieve growth with the help of the state’s first Olympian.
Minister Ranoj Pegu also stated that since Lovlina is the representative of the education sector in Assam, women and girls throughout the state will be encouraged to educate themselves. Lovlina Borgohain is a three-time world champion and bronze medalist. She is the only Indian female boxer to bring an Olympic medal to India at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Family and life of Olympian Lovlina
Lovlina Borgohain was born on October 2, 1997 in the Golaghat district of Assam. She started her career in Taekwondo and later turned to Boxing. Her father was a small businessman, who worked hard to make his daughter’s dream come true. However, when the Indian Sports Authority held a trial at her school, Lovlina seized the opportunity herself.
After being selected by the Indian Sports Authority, the famous coach Padum Boro began her training in 2012. She started training at the boxing academy. After she entered the international arena, she was trained by Indian women’s head coach Shif Singh.
All about Lovlina’s achievements and success
Lovlina won the welterweight gold medal at the Indian Open of the first International Boxing Championship. She also won bronze medals at the Asian Boxing Championships in Vietnam and the Presidents Cup in Astana.
Later, Lovlina won a silver medal at the Ulaanbaatar Cup in Mongolia and a bronze medal at the 13th Silesian International Championships in Poland. She also won a bronze medal at the AIBA World Boxing Championship for Women. She is also the first female athlete in Assam to qualify for the Olympics. Lovlina Borgohain received the Arjuna Award from President Ram Nath Kovind in recognition of her outstanding performance in boxing.
Lovlina’s cheerful welcome in Assam
For Ms. Borgohain, it was an ecstatic warm welcome. When getting off the plane, the leader’s first hug came from the Chief Minister. While playing the Bihu melody, the Chief Minister decorated her with traditional Gapi and Gamocha.
“I am so happy that you all are here and I was able to bring back a medal but upset with myself that it is not gold,” she said, her voice almost breaking down.
Due to her success, the Assam government offered the position of Deputy Superintendent of Assam Police (DSP) to Lovlina. “We gave her a reward of 1 Crore rupees, until the Paris Olympics, we will give him a scholarship of 1 lakh rupees every month. In Sarupathar, near her village, we will build a gymnasium in her name, and in Guwahati, a road will be named after her,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma.
She was also presented with a new car by a French automobile company. She was given a Renault Kiger worth 5.64 Lakh approx.
Decorations and arrangements were prepared at Baromukhiya village of Golaghat district for Lovlina Borgohain as she reached home after more than a year. She was welcomed by BJP MLA Biswajit Phukan along with Golaghat Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police.
