In a disturbing turn of events, the educational integrity of Assam has been compromised by the recent leakage of Higher Secondary Examination question papers in Kokrajhar. Shockingly, reports reveal that the leaked papers were accessible on mobile phones just thirty minutes after the examination commenced. Following swift action, authorities have apprehended one individual in connection with this breach.

Assam Grapples with HS Exam Paper Leak

This incident sheds light on the ongoing struggles faced by educational institutions in safeguarding examination materials and upholding the sanctity of academic evaluations. In response to this breach, the Assam government has introduced a stringent ‘Examination Bill’ during the Budget Session of the 15th Legislative Assembly.

The bill proposes severe penalties, including imprisonment of up to three years and fines ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 crore, for various malpractices such as cheating and leaking of question papers. It aims to deter individuals from engaging in unauthorized distribution or possession of examination materials, with provisions to regulate the printing of question papers solely in government-authorized presses.

This proactive measure underscores the government’s commitment to tackling exam malpractices and ensuring a fair assessment environment for students. Last academic year, the issue of unauthorized distribution severely impacted students appearing for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exams. The new bill seeks to address these challenges by imposing strict penalties for selling question papers and aiding candidates during exams. With the implementation of enhanced security measures and the introduction of the Examination Bill, authorities aim to restore trust in the examination system and uphold the credibility of academic assessments in Assam.
