Assam CM visits flood affected regions of the state

The Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on Tuesday, that he had visited Halflong and other areas that were affected by the recent flood and landslide. 

The areas have been carefully inspected in regard to the damage caused by the calamity.

Centre announces relief for flood affected areas

Earlier this month, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the centre has decided to give away Rs 180 crore to restore the New Halflong Railway Station in the Lumding-Badarpur Section in Dima Hasao which was damaged by the recent mudslide. 

A post was shared by the Assam Chief Minister on his Twitter handle, informing the decision made by the centre to restore the railway station in Dima Hasao.

Many photos and videos circulated on the internet that displayed the tragic loss of property and damaged areas of the northeastern region due to the recent aftermath of flood.

The Assam Chief Minister further mentioned that the centre assures the restoration of the railway line in Dima Hasao by the 10th of July 2022.

He said the restoration is important to ensure connectivity in the region and also to other states of the northeast.

In addition to railways, road connectivity has also been severely damaged. The restoration of roadways will be wrapped up by 31st May 2022. He said, “The hill district is under an acute scarcity of petrol and diesel. IOC and a few other oil companies supply oil to the district through airdropping. Today they airdropped 6,000 litres of petrol and diesel in the district.”
