Assam Cabinet made a unanimous decision to fully own the Assam Inland Waterways Company Ltd as a State Government Company.

The company will aim to establish, maintain and operate in a budget-friendly manner to provide services to the people in Assam. The transport services including river cruises, developing and maintaining weather ports and passenger terminals are some of the services that will be included in the company.
Moreover, the cabinet has also approved the construction of a 4 lane bridge having a length of 4.08 km over the river Brahmaputra, connecting Palasbari to Sualkuchi. The estimated cost will be around Rs 13,197 crore. The objective of constructing this bridge is to shorten the distance between LGBI airport and Lower Assam by over 25 km.
In addition, the cabinet also approved the construction of Terminal and Riverine Infrastructure at the Guwahati Gateway Ghat. The total value is estimated to be around Rs 2289 crore. This construction will improve the connectivity between the ferry ghats of Guwahati and North Guwahati. Many tourists who often visit North Guwahati for religious purposes and other sightseeing activities will be able to travel by this route. This will ensure maximum boost in the tourism sector.
The Cabinet has decided on upgrading 34 Polytechnics and 43 Government ITIs into Centre of Excellence in Association with Tata Technologies Limited. Further, the new medical colleges and hospitals that are planned to be set up at Bongaigaon, Dhemaji, Golaghat and Morigaon have also been approved by the Assam Cabinet.
