Complain lodged
Saikia said in a complaint filed with the Director of Agriculture on September 29, 2021, that a group of wholesalers and retailers in the Kamrup Metro and Kamrup districts have been smuggling away subsidised urea destined for farmers.
In this way, they allegedly syphon off a large sum of money each month, according to Saikia’s complaint.
Saikia also said that a wholesaler from the Kamrup area is in charge of the entire transaction from a corner in Karnataka.
He also wanted to pursue legal action against these businessmen.
The Director of Agriculture, according to Saikia, asked the District Agriculture Officer (DAO) of Kamrup district to take the necessary steps under the Fertilizer (Control) Order, 1985, and submit an action taken report based on the DAO’s findings a month after his complaint.
