Debajit Sarma, a professional arm wrestler from Guwahati, won gold in the 95 kg category of the open national arm wrestling championship held in Delhi on March 27.
The arm-wrestling championship was organized by Lions Empire Group, with the tournament taking place in Thyagaraj Stadium in the national capital.

Earlier, various world arm-wrestling champions were invited by the club as guest honors.
Meanwhile, Debajit has been named the team captain of the Assam arm-wrestling team.

Further, during a press conference, the arm wrestler talked about his experience at the tournament.

“It was a fantastic experience to be a part of the championship and even better to win gold. Meeting arm wrestlers from all over the world was a unique experience, and I was able to learn from each and every one of them” He told the press.
He was also asked about the reach of arm-wrestling as a sport in Assam, to which he said that while there was no glamour or appropriate coverage of the sport previously, the scope has grown in recent years due to proper media coverage.
