Over 2.82 lakh new Covid cases have been recorded in India in the last 24 hours, up 18% over yesterday’s total.
Increase in cases
The positive rate, which indicates how far the infection has spread, has increased slightly from 14.43 percent to 15.13 percent.
The fast-spreading Omicron type, which is driving the third wave of the pandemic, has been reported in 8,961 cases in the country thus far.
Death toll risen compared to previous day
According to reports, in the last 24 hours, 441 deaths have been reported as a result of the infection, up from 310 deaths the day before.
According to the Health Ministry’s bulletin, the country’s active caseload is currently at 18.31 lakh.
In the last 24 hours, almost 1.88 lakh people have recovered from Covid, bringing the country’s recovery rate to 93.88 percent.
Testing and administering vaccines
So far, 70.74 crore samples have been examined. Over 18.69 lakh tests were performed in the last 24 hours, up from over 2 lakh the day before.
The government is pushing hard to expand coverage amid the third wave of infections, and over 158 crore doses of vaccines have been provided as part of the nationwide programme.
The government said yesterday that testing numbers are falling and states need to ramp up, a week after listing conditions that do not require testing.
