A senior accountant in the Cachar treasury office was arrested on Wednesday by the state police vigilance and anti-corruption wing for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

Madan Singha, the senior accountant, sought a bribe in order to finalize the commutation loan.

“Today, a team from @DIR VAC ASSAM caught Sh Madan Singha, Senior Account Assistant O/O Treasury officer, Cachar, taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 at his office. The bribe was asked in exchange for the processing of the complainant’s commutation loan,” said GP Singh, Special Director General of Police (DGP), Law and Order.

Notably, despite the warnings of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, government personnel continue to accept bribes.
Sarma had previously warned government officials and the public to be wary of persons who take bribes and encouraged them not to give such people any special money or bribe money.
