Cough Syrup worth Rs 35 Lakh seized in Assam

On Monday night, that is on 2nd May, police in Churaibari, Assam’s Karimganj district, near the Assam-Tripura inter-state boundary, confiscated cough syrup worth roughly Rs 35 lakh from a car and arrested the driver.

According to sources, the cough syrup was discovered during a regular check near the Churaibari police checkpoint, some 110 kilometers from Silchar, on Monday night at about 9 p.m. 

Cops stopped a vehicle (AS-01 MC-0386) traveling from Guwahati to Agartala, Tripura, and searched it near the watch post.

10,155 bottles of Cough syrup seized 

Moreover, authorities discovered and seized at least 10,155 bottles of cough syrup packed within 97 bags in the car, which were supposed to be trafficked to the neighboring state of Tripura.

Meanwhile, the driver, Aditya Rabha (45), of Nalapara, Boko, Kamrup district, has been apprehended and is being questioned by the police.

The market value of the seized cough syrup, according to a police officer at the Churaibari police watch post, is believed to be around Rs. 35 lakh.

It should be noted that in the last few days, different unlawful products have been seized in Barak Valley. On Monday, heroin was worth roughly Rs. 3 crore was confiscated from a car in Panchgram, Hailakandi district.

Based on a tip, a team of cops raided a petrol station at Panchgram, around 27 kilometers from Silchar, and seized over three kilograms of heroin from an Alto car. The drugs were believed to have been imported from Mizoram and were set to be trafficked into Meghalaya.
