The Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) reminded Meghalaya Education Minister Lakmen Rymbui of their long-standing demand that the Salary Structure be implemented and the salaries of 5814 Lower Primary teachers and 6727 Upper Primary teachers employed under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) be increased.

According to the Association, since the inception of SSA in 2001, following the inclusion of Article 21-A in the Indian Constitution, the post of Primary and Upper Primary teachers has been sanctioned by States/UTs governments in various Project Approval Board meetings.

It was done based on the Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR), with the condition that these posts be filled by States/UTs Education departments with the same salary and service conditions as other regular teachers of the respective Education departments.

Rather, the State/UT Government is ultimately responsible for all teachers.

And at par for similar work and experience’ are stated in Rule (18) sub-Rule (3) of the Meghalaya Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2011.
