Today, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma underlined that the Assam Police must be harsh on criminals while remaining sympathetic to the general public. While speaking to the media, he stated that if any police officer tortures innocent people, the government will take stern measures against him.
Nagaon incident
The Chief Minister was alluding to an incident that occurred on Saturday in Kachalukhua, Nagaon, in which a student leader was purportedly injured by police firing.

He stated that an inquiry commission has been formed under the supervision of Additional Chief Secretary Paban Borthakur, and that the inquiry commission will deliver its report within seven days. “If any police officer is found guilty, the government will take severe measures against him,” the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated.
People-friendly approach

The police, on the other hand, must approach the general public with a sympathetic and courteous demeanour. A police officer who does not take a people-friendly attitude would not be spared, he said, adding that the government is aiming to create an environment in which people see the police as their friends while also instilling terror in the hearts of lawbreakers.
