Cachar police have arrested two culprits for allegedly trying to kill a girl after raping her.
The incident happened at Punihawai village under the Dholai police station in Assam’s Cachar district on October 25.
Culprits arrested
The culprits identified as Maniruddin and Riyaz from Bidyaratanpur village were arrested on Sunday.
The lady in her complaint alleged that the 2 men barged into her residence on October 25 and threatened to kill her son if she resisted.

Victim’s statement
“They raped me… I… tried to escape when they attacked me with a sharp object. They tried to chop my head off but I escaped. I lost four fingers of my left hand. They ran away when I started screaming,” Hindustan Times quoted the woman as saying.
Police’s refusal to register her complaint
She additionally alleged police refused to register her case and also ignored it.
“I went to the Dholai police station and registered the case on October 25 after a long argument with the police. But the police did not even ask the accused to come to the police station… The accused later threatened again to kill me. I had to run away… I am moving on the streets of Silchar town like a beggar because I have to feed my son,” she said.

Accused to be prosecuted
Sahabuddin Barbhuiya, who is Dholai police in charge, refuted the claims by the sufferer and stated that the 2 accused men had been arrested and they’re being interrogated.
He cited their initial probe and added the complainant’s husband remarried recently.
“One of the two accused is the father of her husband’s second wife,” he said.
The police officer stated the accused will be produced before the courtroom on Monday and also offered safety to the women.
