NDRF Leads Rescue Operations Amidst Tripura Flood Crisis

In a massive rescue effort, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has evacuated over 1,500 people from flood-hit regions in Tripura. The state has been grappling with severe floods following continuous rainfall, resulting in widespread devastation. Eleven specialized NDRF teams have been deployed to the worst-affected areas, where they are actively engaged in rescuing stranded individuals and providing much-needed relief.

Relief Efforts and Ongoing Support

The NDRF teams are not only focusing on rescue operations but are also working closely with local authorities to distribute food and water to those affected. Commandant HPS Kandari of the 1st Battalion, NDRF, assured that the force remains committed to supporting and protecting the people of Tripura during this crisis. He emphasized that the NDRF will continue to extend all possible assistance to the flood-hit residents.

Floods Cause Unprecedented Damage in Tripura

The flood situation in Tripura, although showing some signs of improvement, has caused unparalleled destruction. This is the worst flood-related loss of life the state has seen in the past thirty years. While most rivers are now flowing below the danger mark, vast areas, including farmland and residential zones, remain submerged, leading to significant displacement and loss.

Tragic Loss of Life and Property

As of Friday, the death toll in Tripura has risen to 26, including women and children, with several others injured due to landslides and flooding. Six of the state’s eight districts—South Tripura, Gomati, West Tripura, Sepahijala, Unakoti, and Khowai—have been severely impacted, with two people still missing. The floods also claimed the lives of two members of the Tripura State Rifles during rescue operations in South Tripura and West Tripura.

Condolences Pour In for Flood Victims

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, and other political leaders have expressed their condolences to the victims of the floods. The state continues to reel under the impact of this natural disaster, with ongoing relief efforts aimed at restoring normalcy.
