Tinsukia Police arrested a female with suspected heroin of around 110 grams in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Friday evening.
The woman was identified as Chitchawali Engleng of Nagaland. According to police, the woman was coming from Dimapur by train to give the drugs to a person.
Statements by Tinsukia police official
“We received information regarding the trafficking of drugs. We arrested a lady after she landed at Tinsukia railway station. We recovered 10 soapboxes containing suspected heroin of approximately 110 grams,” said a police official.
The police official said, “We are investigating to find out the links. As per the preliminary investigation, we found that the lady was a drug peddler and was coming to Tinsukia to hand over the drugs to some person.”
Drug worth ₹30 Lakh
The price of the recovered substance is predicted to be worth ₹30 Lakh in the global market.
Sources also stated that, after a large crackdown towards drugs, the drug traffickers are using all sorts of strategies to give the drugs to the consumers.
“Most of the contraband substances are trafficked from Myanmar and through the Dimapur route the drugs are transported to certain places. As per information, many security personnel and local people are involved in the drug trafficking racket,” said a police source.
Arrest of Assam Rifles Jawans
Moreover, Dibrugarh Police on Friday arrested 3 jawans of Assam Rifles and one civilian and recovered 269 grams of suspected heroin from them in Dibrugarh.
They had been identified as Ranjit Kumar Singha of 23 Assam Rifles, Binay Kumar of 16 Assam Rifles, Junush Khan of 7 Assam Rifles all in uniform, and a civilian, Pezslhoulie Rupreo.
