South Korea has shown interest to invest and introduce Korean enterprises in Assam in the field of healthcare, food processing, infrastructure, and tourist sectors.
A high-level South Korean delegation guided by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) went to visit Guwahati and met with Manvendra Pratap Singh, Secretary, Commerce and Industry Department, Assam, to learn about the economic viability of funding in a variety of sectors in the state.

The South Korean delegation included top officials from the Republic of Korea’s Embassy, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), the India-Korea Business Cooperation Center, the India-Korea Startup Center, Okay-Sure, and the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), as well as the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in India (KOCHAM).
The mission discussed economic and bilateral collaboration between Korea and the Assam government, with Korean officers indicating keen interest in healthcare and other responsibilities in the state because it has significant unexplored potential for health technology.
Plans to collaborate in different industries, indicates Mr. Yang
The two sides also discussed the possibility of Korean firms and the government collaborating in a variety of industries, including food production, infrastructure, and tourism.
The Korean trade delegation vowed to communicate the investment opportunities available in Assam with Korean companies headquartered both in India and in Korea.
Mr. Kwang Seok Yang, the industrial attaché at the Republic of Korea’s Embassy in New Delhi, says, “Korea has invested mainly in automotive, electronics, and chemical sectors since the 1990s and now intends to expand its interest to various industries such as pharmaceutical, Organic farming, food processing, and tourism. I hope, post this visit multiple opportunities open up in Assam.”

KOTRA South Asia Region Managing Director Joonhwa Bin remarked, “Korean corporations are usually daring and attempt to be pre-emptive, so Assam might be one of many beneficial locations contemplating its varied potentials.

The Korean expedition also donated Korean-made safety masks plus thermometers to the Assam government’s Health and Family Welfare Department. Korean-made N95 masks and PPE kits are amongst them.
