Manipur is one of the five states upcoming with assembly elections, along Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand and Punjab. Manipur assembly polls 2022 are to be held in two phases, voting on February 28 and March 5, while the results get declared on March 10.
Smriti Irani joins traditional dance group in Manipur:
On her visit to Imphal, Union Minister for Women & Child Development Smriti Irani on February 18, grooved with artists performing traditional dance at an event in Wangkhei area of Imphal East.
About the polls:
Earlier, the dates of the poll were announced as February 27 and March, however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) revised the Manipur Assembly election schedule with respect to requests from tribes, political parties, inputs, representations, past precedent, logistics and ground situations.
Speech by Irani:
Smriti Irani while addressing the residents of the state said that if the BJP forms the government in the state then it would form a corpus fund of Rs 100 crore for startups in the state.
During the speech the Minister launched a scathing attack on Congress saying that Rahul Gandhi’s family used the northeastern state as an ATM.
She said, “In the past seven years, the BJP government has promoted the creation of 60,000 startups in the country. If the BJP forms its government in the state, then it would create a corpus fund of Rs 100 crore exclusively for startups in Manipur.”
