Former Meghalaya Police Officer Arrested

The accused has been named to be Nurul Islam. He was a former officer in the state of Meghalaya. The Meghalaya branch of POSCO court or Protection of Children from Sexual offences has sentenced him to a lifetime in prison.

In addition, he has also been charged with a fine of Rs 8 lakh which the accused has to give to the minor victim’s family.
The issue came to light last week by the POSCO court of Meghalaya.
He was found to be guilding in accordance with the IPC Act and the POSCO Act of 2012.
He was caught in the gruesome act when he was the officer in charge of the department of police in the district of Ampat, in the West Garo Hills. The incident occurred 9 years back in 2013.

He was guilty of raping two sisters at the Police Station on March 13 and 14th in the year 2013.
One of the sisters was a minor, aged 14 years. And the other was 17 years old.

He held the sisters at gunpoint and threatened them for their life.
The victim’s parents later filed an FIR against him for the same.

The Indian judicial system though gives justice to the victims but the amount of time that it takes for the criminal to be punished cannot be justified.

After such a gruesome act, one cannot be justified to be punished and serve for his crime after 9 years.
