Assam Police encounters 2 dacoits in Goalpara

On 28th August night, Assam police encountered two alleged dacoits in Goalpara district. The accused were trying to flee from police custody when Assam police gunned them down during a retaliatory firing at Karbala in Gobindopur. 

Two died, one injured and another one managed to flee: Assam police

According to the district police, the incident happened between Lakhipur and Agia when a car tried to ram through a police barricade. The State’s Director-General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said, “The Goalpara police chased the vehicle while being shot at by the criminals [inside the car]. But the police got the better of them,” 

The two of the criminals identified as Rafajuddin and Basit Ali died in the encounter while another dacoit Rashidul Islam injured from the bullet shots and is being treated at hospital. 

A gun and a card is recovered from the incident

The DGP said, “We are on the lookout for the fourth accomplice. All of them have prior cases of dacoity against them. A gun and the car they were travelling in have been recovered”.

Meanwhile, police are searching for one more dacoit, who managed to flee from their custody. All the accused have prior cases of dacoity against them.

Over 20 criminal have been killed by Assam police

On may 23, the first encounter between the armed forces and criminals happened when six members of the outlawed Dimasa National Liberation Army were gunned down in Karbi Anglong district. 

Late on June 20, two members of the extremist United Revolutionary People’s Front were killed. 

On June 23, wanted murderer Bubu Konwar got killed. 

On July 2, Kanwaldeep Singh Sindhu, criminal and kidnapper was killed in Karbi Anglong district. Chaurangi Syni, a cattle smuggler was also killed in Kokrajhar on the same day. 

This year since May, over 20 criminals have been killed in similar encounters, while over 30 have sustained bullet injuries.
