On Monday while attacking Congress, the opposition party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cited quotes of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru‘s speech to bring out his point.
PM Modi Criticizes Congress
Modi highlighted Nehru’s quote made from the Red Fort, where he allegedly characterized Indians as “lazy” and less dynamic compared to citizens of other nations such as the United States and China.
Modi said, “Let me read what Prime Minister Nehru had said from the Red Fort. ‘Indians generally do not have the habit of working very hard, we do not work as much as the people of Europe or Japan or China or Russia or America’.”
The Prime Minister further criticized former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, accusing her administration of failing to recognize the full potential of Indian citizens and eternalize a culture of complacency and defeatism.
Modi’s remarks came in response to the President’s Motion of Thanks on President Droupadi Murmu’s recent parliamentary address. In his speech, Modi criticized the Congress party for what he described as a historical lack of faith in India’s capabilities, asserting that the party had consistently underestimated the nation and its people.
