2021 has some notable deaths of prominent figures.

The year 2021 was filled with shocking events and experiences like never before. Apart from the pandemic several other events occurred which left us all shocked. 

People during this whole year went through a lot of emotions alot of ups and downs. Starting from losing their close ones to jobs. 

The year was dominated by natural calamities, pandemics, protests, and political riots. 2021 has seen a number of major events starting from the farmer protests, Cyclones, Olympic gold, and shocking deaths of celebrities.

2021 will be counted among those years which will never be forgotten. From Aryan Khan’s arrest to the Uttarakhand floods, Assam’s earthquake, to Mamata Banerjee’s resounding victory in Bengal, to the Punjab Congress drama, to lack of oxygen and medicines, what a roller coaster ride it was. 

This year we also lost some of the big names and that too unexpectedly. It’s saddening, but their memories will remain immortal. 

Here’s looking at some shocking deaths in 2021: 

1) Dilip Kumar 

Dilip Kumar or earlier he was known as Muhammad Yusuf Khan is an Indian film actor who is famously known as the Tragedy King. He was the one who brought method acting to Hindi cinema. 

He debuted as an actor in the film Jwar Bhata in 1944. In his acting career he worked for almost 65 films. 

For his contributions towards Indian cinema, the Indian government awarded him with the Padma Bhushan in 1991, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015. 

He passed away at the age of 98 due to his prolonged illness. He was admitted to the hospital on June 30 and passed away on July 7.  

2) Siddharth Shukla 

The most shocking death of the year. The ‘Balika Vadhu’ actor Siddharth Shukla. He was born on 12 December 1980. He was known for his roles in Broken but Beautiful 3, Balika Vadhu and Dil Se Dil Tak, Bigg Boss, Khatron ke Khiladi. 

And was known for his drop-dead gorgeous looks. Shukla made his Bollywood debut in a supporting role in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. 

On September 2 2021, Sidharth Shukla died of a heart attack at the age of 40. 

3) Helen McCrory

Famous from Peaky Blinders and the Harry Potter, Helen McCrory’s death was unexpected too. She was known for her fabulous acting. She was one of the great actors of her time. 

McCrory was born on 17 August 1968 in Paddington, London. She was a British stage and screen actress. 

McCrory died of breast cancer at her home in London on 16 April 2021 at the age of 52. 

4) Milkha Singh 

Milkha Singh, popularly known as “the Flying Sikh”, one of India’s greatest athletes. He ran many memorable races in his career. 

The Flying Sikh, is best remembered for his 400m race at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, where he became the first Indian male to reach the final of an Olympic event. Milkha had also won four Asian Games gold medals. 

He was also the first athlete to win a Commonwealth Games gold for India. In 2013, Bollywood turned his story into a movie ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’. 

Milkha Singh had contracted Covid-19 and died of complications from the disease in Chandigarh at the age of 91. 

5) Danish Siddiqui 

In a tragic incident Indian journalist Danish Siddiqui was killed this year. He was a Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist. 

As a photojournalist, Danish has covered several important and remarkable stories in Asia, Middle East and Europe. 

Danish started his career as a correspondent for the Hindustan Times before shifting to the TV Today Network. However, later he switched to photojournalism. 

Recently, he was awarded the ‘Journalist of the Year’ for 2020 by the Mumbai Press Club. He has also been honored with various photojournalism awards in the USA, England, China and India. 

On 16 July 2021, while covering a clash between Afghan Special Forces and Taliban insurgents in Spin Boldak, Kandahar, he was killed. Siddiqui was killed by the Taliban in an ambush-crossfire. 

There were major other losses as well in the field of politics, arts and entertainment as well that left a void too large to fill. 

Death is inevitable in human life. However, if someone lives for a 100 years for some, sometimes, the end comes sooner. As the saying goes, life is short. As rightly said by Rajesh Khanna: “Babumoshai, Zindagi Badi Honi Chahiye, lambi nahin.”
