To escape the scorching heat of the summers in the plain, many people flock to the hills in search of cozy atmosphere. Without much thought, northeast has become the new hub for people in the country.
North east India
Northeast India which is a gateway to the South eastern region of the map,that shares some of its borders with Tibet, Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar.

1. Shillong, Meghalaya ; Known as the Scotland of the north east, this gorgeous place is located close to the Assam Border. One can take a direct cab or a bus to reach Shillong. The place has some of the most beautiful spots like ward’s lake that gives you a panoramic view. Shillong is filled with green slopes and fresh smell of the pine trees. Meghalaya also holds a lot of festivals like NH7 Weekender, Cherry Blossom festivals and others that attracts a lot of tourism.
2. Gangtok, Sikkim ; Gangtok is known for some of its most amazing trekking experiences in the hills and monasteries in the north east. The beauty of the place is magnificent . With the green tea plantations and the hills make an amazing combo. One can also hop around some of the famous bakery and tea shops to enjoy the surroundings. One must also not forget to start your day by looking at the sun rise right behind the Kachenjunga.
3. Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh ; Nowadays, with the recent development in the north east – roadways and introduction of vistadrome many people have started visiting Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. Since the place witnesses heavy snowfall in the winter months, it is more advisable to visit in the summer months. The place is filled with cherry blossoms, flowers of all colours and some of the famous monasteries. The top places to visit are the Tawang Monastries, Tipi Orchid sanctuary, and the Nuranang Falls.
4.Jatinga Assam ; If you are enthusiastic about bird watching do not miss out to plan a visit to Jatinga. You will get to see hundreds of migratory birds flocking down to Jatinga to avoid the harsh winter months of the Himalayan region. The place also offers an assamese cultural experience amidst of nature.
5. Majuli, Assam ; Known as the Asia’s largest river island – Majuli is situated in the upper assam region of north east India. Home to the largest riverine islands, Majuli offers an experience ; like never before. The place is filled with beauty is every glimpse of it. Mauli is also known for itsmask making festivals. Unfortunately due the global warming and constant erosion of the land, the land mass has submerged significantly in recent years.
6. Bomdila, Arunachal Pradesh ; Another great destination is to visit Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh. The place is a delight for the photographers out there. Filled with cultural heritage and mezmerizing surroundings, the region is filled with tourist all round the year. The place also has orchards, wildlife sanctuary, museum and beautiful craft centres.
7. Kohima, Nagaland ; Kohima, which is the main capital city of Nagaland is a gem of a place with breath taking natural beauty. The fashion hub of the north east, the area is filled with boutiques, eatery and is becoming a tourist hub in recent years. Many campers prefer going to Dzouko Valley from Kohima to camp and enjpy the peaceful valley.
8. Mawsynram, Meghalaya ; Not very far from the capital city of Shillong, Mawsynram has too many waterfalls and rivers. Known as the wettest place on the globe, the area is a paradise for the local and the tourist alike.
