The 56th National Cross Country Championship along with the 2nd edition of SAAF was held at the capital city of Nagaland. The international event was commenced at the prestigious Indira Gandhi Stadium of Kohima, Nagaland.
56th National Cross Country Championship
National Cross Country Championship is a running championship held at an international platform. Athletes from the world participate in the running.This time, this international event was held at the capital of Nagaland. Along with this event, another prestigious championship, the South Asian Athletic Federation also known as the SAAF was held togther.
The mascot of the event is the pride of Nagaland, a hornbill. A joyous hornbill can be seen as the symbol of the event. The mascot has been named,’Akimji’ which suggest a combination of the word ambition. The Sumi tribe of Nagaland associate ambition with the youthful generation of the naga tribe.
The event is a large scale event having several sponsorship and huge turn over of people. Since the last 50 years, the state has not witnessed any such big events in the past.
In addition, the event also witnessed the launch of the official Nagaland kit team. The cross country championship saw more than 600 athletes on a platform to compete for the ultimate championship.
The event started off on the 26th of march 2022 at the early hours. Five international countries – Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, and participants from India were seen.
The event had to be postponed from January to March as there was a sudden rise in the covid cases.
There were a number of big players that were seen on the big picture. The President of the AFI even commented that the northeastern part of India has a lot of hidden talents in the field of sports.
