Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of projects worth Rs. 18000 crore in Dehradun, Uttarakhand today.
At the event
PM Modi inspected the model of the Delhi- Dehradun Economic Corridor today. The total cost of the corridor is around Rs. 8,300 crore.
While addressing the crowd at the event, the PM said, “In the last 5 years, the Centre has approved more than Rs. 1 lakh crores for the development of Uttarakhand.”
He added, “Today, I am very happy that the foundation stone of the Delhi- Dehradun Economic Corridor has been laid. When it is ready, the time taken to travel from Delhi to Dehradun will be almost halved.”
About Delhi-Dehradun road project
As stated by the PM, the corridor will significantly reduce the travel time from Delhi to Dehradun from six hours to around 2.5 hours. It will have seven major interchanges for connectivity to Haridwar, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Yamunanagar, Baghpat, Meerut and Baraut.
It will also have Asia’s largest wildlife elevated corridor (12 kilometres) for unrestricted wildlife movement. The corridor will also have arrangements for rainwater harvesting at intervals of 500 metres and over 400 water recharge points.
About Delhi- Haridwar Project
Another greenfield alignment project to provide seamless connectivity and reduce travel time from Delhi to Haridwar. It is an economic corridor connecting Halgoa, Saharanpur to Bhadrabad, Haridwar. The total cost will be over Rs. 2,000 crore.
Along with this several other projects have also been chalked out:
The Haridwar Ring Road Project- Built at a cost of over Rs. 1600 crore. It will provide respite to residents from traffic congestion in Haridwar city.
The Dehradun-Paonta Sahib(Himachal Pradesh) Road Project which will be built at a cost of around Rs. 1700 crore.
A bridge next to Lakshman Jhula is also sought to be constructed.
Provision of electricity by constructing 120 MW Vyasi Hydroelectric Project on river Yamuna worth over Rs. 1700 crore.
Other noteworthy projects are-
Inauguration of Child Friendly City Project, Infra Project at Badrinath Dam and Gangotri- Yamunotri Dham, Haridwar Medical College and State of Art Perfumery and Aroma Laboratory.
