Mamata Banerjee has won the crucial bypoll for Bhabanipur, winning by 58,389 votes in Bhabanipur. Bhabanipur is a south Kolkata constituency in which she had to win to remain the chief minister of West Bengal.
Banerjee thanks the people of West Bengal
According to the Election Commission of India, Mamata Banerjee secured 84,709 votes while BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal bagged 26,320 votes and CMP candidate Srijib Biswas got 4,201 votes.
After the final 21 rounds of counting the victory margin crossed her 2011 records.
The CM expressed gratitude to the people of Bhabanipur and West Bengal for the election results. “We have won in each and every ward. I am satisfied… because Bhabanipur has shown the way,” Banerjee said after winning by-polls.
Other bypolls results
TMC’s Jakir Hossain was leading in Jangipur and TMC’s Amirul Islam was ahead in Samserganj seat in other two bypolls in Murshidabad, West Bengal.
Mamta Banerjee has to get elected as per rules
Banerjee had lost against Suvendu Adhikari from Nandigram in assembly elections, of which the results were announced in May.
The win was a must for her to retain in the state assembly before the end of her first six months as CM in this term.
As per the rules, Banerjee, who took oath as the chief minister of West Bengal on 5th May, must be elected to the West Bengal Assembly before 5th November.
