Indian Army rescues Kerala Trekker, Trapped On Hill For 2 Days

The 23-year-old Kerala Trekker who got trapped in a hill cleft in Kerala’s Palakkad district was rescued by the Indian Army.

Reportedly, In a video, the 23-year-old man named R. Babu could be seen thanking the Indian Army.

The Kerala Trekker was stuck for 2 days

As per reports, the man was stuck in the hill cleft for two days without food and water. And two Indian Army teams reached Palakkad district in Kerala to rescue him.

Lt Gen A Arun said, “Two highly skilled men of Madra Regimental Team, rappelled down the distance of 250 ft, till they reached Mr Babu who is a young trekker and in a fantastic, daring decision making action, they decided to pull Mr Babu up instead of taking him downhill. So he was almost physically,  bodily carried uphill by two members of this descend team.” 

Two Indian Army were requisitioned 

As per reports, two teams from the Indian Army were requisitioned by the state government. One team consisted of twelve personnel from Madras Regiment Centre, Wellington. 

And this team consisted of mountain qualified personnel with specialist equipment. The second team of 22 personnel from Parachute Regiment centre, Bengaluru, was first moved by aircraft to Sulur. 

Furthermore, for more surveillance of location drones were used and choppers were on standby at Sulur air base. 

R Babu climbed the hill with his friends 

The trekker along with his two friends climbed the Cherad Hill in Malampuzha. After some time his friends dropped the effect but Babu kept climbing, and reached the top.

Unfortunately, Babu slipped and was trapped between two rocks. Even though his friends tried to rescue him, they weren’t successful. 

After which his friends came down and alerted the police. Soon, rescue teams arrived at the spot. 

However, attempts from the coastguard to rescue him using a helicopter failed initially. As a result he had to remain trapped for two days. 

After he was rescued, sitting among army men, he said, “Very thanks, Indian Army.” He also kisses the army personnel as a gesture of thanks and joins the men in chanting “Indian Army ki jai, Bharat mata ki jai”. 

Chief Minister Vijayan, also thanked the officials who were involved in the rescue operation. He then mentioned that care will be provided to the youth to regain his health.
