On Friday, India’s statewide vaccination effort administered over 1 crore doses, the biggest number of doses ever given in a single day since the campaign began.
The Government of India announced that India’s COVID vaccination coverage has reached 62 crore people.
Sharing the news, PM Narendra Modi tweeted, “Record vaccination numbers today! Crossing 1 crore is a momentous feat. Kudos to those getting vaccinated and those making the vaccination drive a success.”
Recent decline in Covid cases in India
India had already observed a slight decrease in daily caseload in the previous 24 hours. According to the Union Health Ministry’s morning statement, 44,658 new Covid-19 infections were discovered in a single day.
Kerala, with 67.19 percent or 30,007 new infections in the last 24 hours, contributed the most to India’s Covid tally. The number of Covid fatalities has also decreased, with 496 corona deaths reported on Friday, according to the data.
A good pace of daily vaccination
Daily vaccinations were provided at a good pace in August, with an average of roughly 5 million doses per day. The statewide vaccination campaign has resulted in the administration of 61.22 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses as of Friday morning.
The completely vaccinated population, on the other hand, is currently at 15%, according to the government. The Centre intends to reduce the gap between two doses of Covishield as the vaccine stock situation improves.
Union health minister warns not to let the guard down against the disease
Warning against letting the guard down against the disease, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said, “We are still in midst of Covid-19 second wave; September and October crucial in pandemic management because of several festivals.” Explaining the importance of masks, Bhushan added: “Covid-19 vaccines are disease-modifying and not disease-preventing, so it is very important to use masks even after vaccination.”
Global Covid scenario
Children are being admitted to hospitals in massive numbers across the United States, with experts warning that the situation could deteriorate considerably as schools resume. According to the CDC, an average of 303 children are admitted to hospitals every day, the greatest number since the United States began recording pediatrics approximately a year ago.
