IIT Guwahati to host NERC 2022 from May 20 to 22

The first North-Eastern Research Conclave (NERC-2022) will be held from May 20 to 22 at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati to promote collaboration between industry and academia in the northeastern area.

The three-day conclave will be hosted on the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati campus in partnership with the Assam Department of Education and the Department of Science, Technology, and Climate Change.

Moreover,  around 3,000 notable people from the eight northeastern states and other parts of India are expected to attend the conclave. 

Further, people will come from a variety of backgrounds, including business, academics, start-ups, research councils, public sector undertakings, laboratories, and technical institutes, as well as schools and colleges in the northeast.

Along with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister for North East Development G Kishan Reddy, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is expected to preside over the event.

By saying, “North East Research Conclave 2022 (NERC-2022) is being organised at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati In a bid to boost scientific research and innovation ecosystem in the northeast region. We welcome scientists, researchers, policymakers, administrators and governments to participate to increase the research activities in the northeast, which has great potential in terms of resources and people.”

Meanwhile, the primary goal of this conference is to strengthen R&D collaboration among all stakeholders in northeast India, with the goal of benefiting local people through research, innovation, and start-up, according to Sitharam.

NERC 2022 has the following goals:

To establish a common interface for collaboration and to demonstrate the best R&D activities from all educational/research institutions, industries, and government organisations in northeast India.

To help the country accomplish the SDGs by providing an environment conducive to the development of local indigenous technologies and innovations, defining the scope and building the groundwork for translational research and entrepreneurship, and assisting the government in achieving the SDGs.

In a statement, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati said that NERC 2022 provides the best platform for academia and industry to showcase their expertise, products, and technology innovations on mission mode and that the conclave is expected to benefit in terms of establishing long-term collaboration for research and development.

Moreover, R&D exhibitions, brainstorming sessions, an entrepreneur summit, educating schoolchildren about research as a career option, and talks by scientists, industry professionals, and policymakers will all be part of the three-day conclave events.

Meanwhile, NERC 2022 will also host the third edition of the Assam Biotech Conclave. It will bring together biotech entrepreneurs, industry executives, researchers, academicians, government representatives, policymakers, innovators, and investors to examine the new prospects in the transition and to explore the possibilities of biotechnology in northeast India.
