Indigenous Healthtech Start-Up Unveils Groundbreaking POCT Device ‘MobilabTM’

IIT Guwahati: In a remarkable feat of innovation, M/s Primary Healthtech Pvt. Ltd., a start-up led by alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, has introduced an indigenous Point-of-Care-Testing (POCT) device named MobilabTM. This cutting-edge technology is poised to revolutionize healthcare by enabling the early diagnosis of chronic diseases related to kidney, liver, heart, and pancreas malfunctions. Incubated at the Research Park and the Centre for Nanotechnology within the IIT Guwahati campus, M/s Primary Healthtech Pvt. Ltd. has received extensive research, translational, and regulatory support from prominent institutions, including the SWASTHA Centre for Excellence of MeitY, ICMR-DHR Centre of Excellence, and BIRAC-DBT.

With a dedicated team of 30 engineers and researchers, their mission is to make diagnostics frugal, portable, affordable, and accessible. The device operates through an IoT-enabled Android app and boasts the capability to conduct approximately 150 tests on a single battery charge, ensuring a digitally-connected healthcare ecosystem that transcends even the most remote locations in the nation, ultimately benefiting the last-mile population.

MobilabTM addresses a critical healthcare challenge by enabling the early screening of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Recent data from the World Health Organization underscores the urgency of this issue, with NCDs accounting for a staggering 74% of global deaths. Lack of regular testing facilities at patient sites, coupled with unhealthy lifestyles in low-resource settings, have been significant contributing factors to this alarming statistic. MobilabTM will bridge this gap by facilitating cost-effective testing at patients’ sites, enabling early screening, as well as long-term disease management, at an affordable cost for millions of individuals every year.

Currently, 11 parameters have been validated in NABL accredited and Government labs, in comparison to established gold standards like Siemens Dimension RxL and J&J Vitros 5600 Integrated System. Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has granted the license for the manufacturing of MobilabTM, covering a comprehensive range of health parameters. The device generates real-time data within 10 minutes, providing a digital report and electronic health record for easy sharing with healthcare professionals.

MobilabTM by alumni of IIT Guwahati offers a host of impressive features, including its lightweight, portable, and battery-operated design. Its accuracy is on par with established gold-standards, instilling confidence in its diagnostic capabilities. The user-friendly IoT-enabled Android app is equipped with advanced AI algorithms, ensuring ease of use. Additional features include inbuilt temperature control, a real-time error detection system, instant digital reporting, and multilingual capabilities.

The impact of MobilabTM is already being felt in various hospitals, including Guwahati Medical College & Hospital, Guwahati Neurological Research Centre, Nemcare, Army Hospital, and AIIMS New Delhi. Its deployment across different regions underscores its potential to revolutionize healthcare on a national scale.

Alumni-Led IIT Guwahati Startup Leads the Way in Frugal and Accessible Diagnostics

MobilabTM’s development and deployment have been made possible through extensive support from various institutions, including the Centre for Nanotechnology, IIT Guwahati; Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Govt of India; ICMR-Department of Health Research Centre of Excellence, and others. Plans for mass production involve establishing an affordable yet sustainable vendor network.

Mr. Sahil Jagnani, Alumnus of IIT Guwahati and Founder & CEO of Primary Healthtech, shared his vision for MobilabTM, emphasizing its role in providing affordable diagnostics and expediting early screening and treatment. He also highlighted its contribution to the Make-in-India initiative.

MobilabTM’s accolades include the National Start-Up Award 2022, along with certifications like ISO 9001:2015, ISO 13485:2016, and CDSCO License. The device’s performance validation at esteemed hospitals further affirms its effectiveness. With seven patents to its credit, Primary Healthtech is poised to redefine diagnostics.
