Guwahati: Man beaten to death by wooden piece on Diwali night in Maligaon; Incident caught on camera

A heinous crime has been reported in the city of Guwahati amid the festive season. According to the reports by Time 8 news, a man was beaten to death with a piece of wood last night, November 5.

Cause of crime unknown

The deceased is identified as Tarun Deka was murdered with a piece of wood by an unknown person. The cause of the crime is yet to be known. He was reportedly a security guard of the Maligaon Bazaar of Guwahati.

The eyewitness there spoke about the security being a stake in the city. The locals are also shocked by the situation which took place amid celebrations.  One eyewitness said, “The deceased person has been known to us for the last 20 years. He was a plumber and also a security guard in the Maligaon Bazaar. There has been a rise in criminal activities in the city, thus I suspect this to be a pre-planned murder.”

Police recover CCTV footage, Investigation underway

As per the footage recovered by Guwahati police officials, two drunk men were seen walking towards Bipul Complex and one of the men was carrying a wooden bat in his hand. Later, the man with the bat pushes the other man into the entrance of the complex.

The body of the deceased security guard was found from that same lane during the early morning of Saturday. Visuals of one of the suspects could be visible on the CCTV footage of the Complex. The culprit could be seen sporting a black t-shirt and a pair of jeans.

Following the incident, the Jalukbari police have launched an investigation into the case. Though the identity of the culprit is yet to ascertain.

Recent surge in Crimes in Guwahati

Guwahati is the major city in the North-Eastern region is seen to witness a lot of crime in the past few months and years. A few weeks back chopped body was recovered from garbage dumps in Khanapara. There are many Drunk and Drive incident that has also been reported around the city over the last few months.
