Guwahati: Government forms ‘task force’ to monitor price rise of essential commodities

According to an official release, the district administration organised a ‘task force’ to keep track of the pricing of essential foods in Guwahati. 

Following discussions with various government officials, stakeholders, representatives from the chamber of commerce, merchants, and wholesalers of food goods and vegetables, particularly potato and onion, vegetables, fish, and meat, and so on. 

Decision for Task Force

Ranjeet Kumar Dass, the Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, has decided to set up a special commission to investigate the situation. 

The Minister recently announced the Task Force, which includes members of the Magistrate and officials from the police, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Assam State Agricultural Marketing Corporation, and Veterinary Department, after listening to government representatives and traders about the fluctuating prices of essential food goods.

The task force has been directed to monitor the markets on a daily basis and ensure that prices of important commodities are kept under control, as well as to submit a report to the Deputy Commissioner/Sub divisional office to the Director, Food Civil Supplies Consumer Affairs via emails of assigned areas, which includes checking of purchase cash memos of dealers/traders and wholesalers in accordance with the announcement.

Minister Ranjeeet Kumar Dass mentioned in a tweet that households and businesses must not be harmed. 

An enforcement team has been formed to personally visit key marketplaces in Guwahati and Kamup(M) to monitor the rise in the price of vital commodities, working under the supervision of the respective Executive Magistrate.

Lakhyajit Duwara (Circle Officer, Guwahati), Jintu Bora (Circle Officer, Chandrapur), Bhaskar Jyoti Kalita (Assistant Commissioner cum Executive Magistrate, Kamrup (M) district), and Chinmoy Neog (Circle officer (A), Dispur Revenue Circle cum Executive Magistrate, Kamrup (M) district) are among the officials who will personally visit all of major markets around the Guwahati under Kamrup Metro District.
