Guru Nanak was born in Punjab, Pakistan, in the Lahore province of the Delhi Sultanate. Now known as Nankana Sahib, although according to one tradition, he was born in the Indian month of Kartik or November, known as Kattak in Punjab.

The auspicious event of Guru Nanak Jayanti is one of Sikhism’s most significant feasts. Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first of the ten Sikh gurus, was born on this day. Guru Nanak Dev Ji, according to Sikhs, delivered knowledge to the world.

According to the traditional lunar calendar, the date of Gurpurab fluctuates from year to year. While Diwali is celebrated on the 15th day of the Kartik month, Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated fifteen days later, the auspicious festival of Kartik Purnima. Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 552nd birthday will be celebrated on November 19 this year.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first of the Sikh Gurus, was the founder of Sikhism and the first of the Sikh Gurus. He was born at Nankana Sahib in 1469. His birth was seen to be a sign of divinity. On the lunar calendar’s Kartik Purnima, his birth anniversary is commemorated across the world.

Besides, the lyrics advocate selfless devotion to mankind, prosperity, and social justice for all people, regardless of their differences. Guru Nanak Dev’s life, achievements, and, most importantly, his legacy are commemorated on Guru Nanak Jayanti.

What is the way Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti is commemorated?

Guru Nanak Jayanti is commemorated with great fanfare across the world. In Gurudwara, the festivities begin two days prior. Akhand Path is a 48-hours continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib. Round-the-clock langar (food) is provided and will never stop for anybody and is provided irrespective of religion, caste, or creed. A day before and the same day as the celebration of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birthday, a parade known as Nagarkirtan (procession) is held. It is headed by five men known as the Panj Pyare, who are carrying the Nishan Sahib Sikh triangle flag.

The Guru Granth Sahib is carried in a palanquin throughout the parade. People perform traditional musical instruments, sing hymns in groups, and show off their martial arts talents.
