The Managing Director (MD) of Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSC) has been changed again after only one week on the job.

Meanwhile, Pallav Gopal Jha, the recently appointed GSCL MD, has been transferred out, and Lakshmanan S has taken over as the new MD.

Moreover, the government of Assam informed the public about this in an order dated April 7.

Further, Lakshmanan S apart from being appointed as the MD of GSC Limited was recently appointed Secretary to the Government of Assam, Industries and Commerce, Mines and Minerals Department, and the CM’s Secretariat.

Meanwhile, Pallav Gopal Jha, the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (M), has been appointed as the Project Director of the JICA-assisted Guwahati Water Supply Project.

Before his transfer, Jha, who is also the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (M), held a detailed review meeting to discuss the Brahmaputra Riverfront Project and the development of the Dakshinpaat Xatra, as well as a detailed inspection and discussion to expedite the up-gradation of the iconic Gandhi Mandap.

GSC Limited Likely to be in Limbo for a long period

According to previous reports, Guwahati Smart City (GSC) Limited executives claimed that the frequent change of leadership is the main reason for the projects’ delays.

Officials also stated that it takes roughly 2-3 months for a newly appointed MD to gain a thorough understanding of the projects before making appropriate decisions.

However, the transfer of most of the MDs after brief tenures brings GSCL back to ground zero and restarts the entire exercise. It’s worth noting that 12 Managing Directors have changed since the company’s start in 2016, including this one.

Furthermore, Moloy Bora is said to have held office for the longest time of any MD. With so many leadership changes, the GSCL is likely to be in limbo for a long period.
