From December 6, 2021, in order to escalate the protest over the delay in NEET-PG 2021 counseling, the resident doctors of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) have decided to withdraw from their regular duties, including academic works and routine services.

About the protest:

The protest has been initiated by the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA).

According to an official statement by GMCH, the Doctors who reside within the campus and across the entire nation have been working without any break by completing both their normal as well as COVID duties with 2/3rd of the total manpower for the last six months after the 2018 batch of residents passed out in May 2021.

”The NEET PG examination which was supposed to happen in January 2021 actually took place in September, and the new batch of resident doctors was supposed to join at least by October, but so far even the counseling process has not been initiated owing to court proceedings,” the statement added.

Further, the doctors added that the demands made by them are not considered by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. They said that they would accelerate the entire process only when they will get verbal assurances from the concerned authority.
