Debabrata Saikia who is a leader of the Opposition has urged the Tea Tribe Welfare and Labour Minister, Sanjay Krishan to halt the eviction drive that is taking place in the Dolu Tea Estate. The request has been made to stop the drive until the government can ensure rehabilitation facilities, health care and education to their children.

As per reports, Debabrata Saikia said in a report that, “the state government must ensure rehabilitation of the tea labourers and their healthcare facilities besides education.” He further added, “the government acquired 26,00 bighas of the 9,956 bighas of Dolu Tea estate land for a Greenfield airport in the Cachar district. The government will uproot around 30 lakh tea bushes that let the tea labourers meet both ends meet.”
According to reports, many labourers of the Tea Estate have staged protests against acquisition of land by the Government. As of now no rehabilitation plans have been drawn out.
