Covid upsurge in Team India Camp:
Out of the eight, three of them are players picked to play the series while four are from the support staff and one is a standby player.
On January 31, the team India gathered in Ahmedabad to play the three-match ODI series against West Indies which is due to start on February 6.
About the infected players:
Sources say that the infected players are Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer. Other than the players, a driver, a security personnel, a physical trainer and a masseuse have been infected.
The cases were confirmed after the players arrived in Ahmedabad ahead of the ODI series on commercial flights.
Besides, Navdeep Saini, who was present with the team as a standby player, has also tested positive for the virus.
Team in isolation:
The entire team has been put in mandatory isolation. The members were supposed to undergo three-day quarantine upon reaching Ahmedabad which was supposed to end on Wednesday. However, they will have to remain in isolation for at least two more days. Tests will be conducted every day now. The West Indies squad arrived in Ahmedabad on February 1.
Further, the BCCI has said it’s flexible with the scheduling of the series. There could be a chance of pushing the series by a couple of days if need be. However, if no more positive cases come out then the series may start as per schedule on Sunday. “As of now, the BCCI medical team is monitoring the situation and is yet to confirm all positive cases,” a source said.
