Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s announcement that youngsters aged 15 to 18 years will be vaccinated against the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Assam government will publish rules on how these children will be immunised. The Assam government is awaiting detailed instructions from the Indian government in this regard.
“At least in some areas, we plan to begin the COVID-19 immunisation process for children aged 15 to 18 years in the first week of January 2022. We shall receive detailed clarification on this vaccine effort within 2-3 days, and we will disseminate the relevant information at the appropriate time “Dr Lakshmanan S, the Assam Mission Director of the National Health Mission, said.
“We’re waiting for directions from the Center on the mode of the immunization drive and the duration of the vaccine,” he added.
Meanwhile, Assam had administered a total of 3,71,04,258 vaccine doses as of 6 p.m. on Monday. The first dosage vaccine was given to 2,17,06,700 persons, while the second dose was given to 1,53,97,558 people. The immunization programme took place in 3,525 locations across Assam on Monday.
Following the development of the Omicron variety, Prime Minister Modi recently declared that coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination for children aged 15 to 18 years will begin on January 3, 2022, amid fears of another COVID-19 outbreak.
