Boat casualty in Brahmaputra: Another decomposed body recovered

Almost a week after the recent tragic boat incident in the river Brahmaputra, another body was recovered on Tuesday. This is the third body that has been recovered from the River Brahmaputra, which was found floating in the river in lower Majuli’s Bhekeli Chapori area.

Who recovered the body?

A decomposed body has been recovered by a rescue team of SDRF and NDRF from Bhekeli Sapori in Majuli, they have rushed to the spot where the body was sighted. However, the body was suspected to be of Dr. Bikramjit Baruah, who went missing after the unfortunate boat casualty that took place on September 8, at Nimatighat.

The body that was found was in a black shirt is suspected to be that of the doctor, who went missing from the spot right after the incident.

Meanwhile, search operations for the missing persons of the boat accident have been carried out by the Jorhat Police, SDRF and NDRF teams. Residents saw the body floating upon the river in Kumaliya of Bhekeli Chapori  in Majuli and informed the officials. 

While one of the missing persons who was travelling in that boat, identified as Indreswar Borah, his body was recovered from Biswanath on Saturday, near Kaziranga. However, to trace the body of Bikramjit Baruah, the rescue operations were underway.

Belongings of Dr. Baruah found

Resident of Borigaon in Jorhat, Dr. Baruah was an ENT specialist who resided with his father, wife Dr. Arunima Borah, and two children. Meanwhile, Dr. Baruah’s bag containing RC, ID card has been recovered in Biswanath’s Bhasatapu.

Victims rescued till now

Although 87 persons travelling in the boat have been rescued as per the Assam Government record, along with three deaths; Parimita Das, Indreswar Borah and Dr. Bikramjit Baruah. The accident occurred when two ferries collided on river Brahmaputra on Wednesday, the private ferry which was going towards Majuli from Nimati Ghat collided with another ferry moving from the opposite direction.
