17 Assamese workers allegedly detained by Arunachal Pradesh Construction Company

On 29th August, The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) claimed that 17 workers of Assam have been forcefully ‘detained’ by a road construction company in Arunachal Pradesh since August 16.

The 17 detained workers have been identified as – Deep Tanti, Subham Tanti, Pradip Pandav, Tankeswar Das, Biju Telenga, Dimbeswar Telenga, Sankar Masuwa, Bijoy Sasoni, Bishal Munda, Binod Munda, Arjun Nayak, Krishna Bhumiz, Ramesh Ghatowar, Uday Rawat, Dharmeswar Bhumiz, Yadav Manki, and Badal Manki. They were from Khongia and Krishna Bihari tea gardens under Demow police station in Sivasagar district. 

The AASAA has alleged that these 17 workers went to Arunachal Pradesh under two contractors identified as Nitul Sarma and Manab Tanti from Moran who also have been detained by the company. 

The workers are allegedly being harassed by the company

AASAA has also claimed that the workers are being physically harassed and threatened by the authorities of the company if they leave the project mid-way.

AASAA urges Sivasagar administration to take action

The student body has requested the Sivasagar administration and the Superintendent of Sivasagar Police, to immediately intervene in the matter and take necessary steps to rescue the workers.

On 28th August the family members of the 17 detained workers filed Complaints at the Demow police station.
