Assam: On December 17, a Sub-inspector from Patharkandi police station in Karimganj district was arrested for allegedly indulging himself in a bribery of Rs 5,000.
Confirming the arrest in the Barak Bulletin, Padmanabh Baruah, Superintendent of Karimganj Police stated, “We have arrested him now and now he is being interrogated. We are investigating the matter further to find why he collected the bribe, how much and why was the bribe paid.”
What happened in Karimganj district, Assam:
The police personnel who have been identified as Jitendra Singha, was caught accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from an individual at the police station in exchange for access to a report. The entire scenario was captured on camera which later went viral on social media.
After inquiry:
The Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) GP Singh said that the Karimganj district police arrested the sub-inspector based on an initial inquiry that was launched after the video emerged on the Internet.
In his tweet Singh wrote, “Reference video on social media – After initial enquiry, Sub Inspector Jitendra Singha of Patharkandi police station has been arrested by Karimganj police today for accepting a bribe. A criminal case has been registered.”
