Assam Police’s Special Task Force officers awarded prestigious Kendriya Grihamantri Dakshata Padak
The distinguished team of STF comprised head of the force, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Inspector General of Police (IGP), along with Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Kalyan Kumar Pathak and Lance Naik Hemanta Kachari and Constable Rajkumar Kaibartta. Their tremendous work has been crucial to the enhancement of security situations in Assam by undermining organized crime networks and obstructing cross-border threats at large.
Key Operations and Accomplishments
Under IGP Partha Sarathi Mahanta, the STF carried out a number of successful operations that saw huge quantities of illicit drugs confiscated and drug-trafficking networks with deep roots in the region dismantled.
Among their most significant accomplishments was a heroin-smuggling crackdown that had been afflicting Assam‘s youth and communities for so long. With proper intelligence and intervention strategies, the STF intercepted hundreds of drug shipments, and the distribution of illicit substances in Assam was considerably halted.
The STF also targeted other critical areas of organized crime, including dealing a serious blow to the issue of counterfeit currency and bringing under control poaching activities that were threatening Assam’s wildlife.
Their efforts brought into custody people who had been involved in rhino poaching, which has been an illicit activity threatening Assam’s natural heritage and tourist appeal.
The STF was quite vigilant and took all initiatives to stop illegal infiltration; in fact, this mostly involved the Rohingya community invading Assam from Bangladesh with which Assam shares the international border.
Infiltration across international borders always poses a long-standing security threat to Assam with the increasing threat of smuggling and radical activities.
This incident dates back to the month of March when Harish Farukhi was arrested from Assam- along with an associate he was arrested for sabotage activity. For Assam this was the biggest win concerning counter-terror operations by dismantling ISIS operations here and it has also significantly enhanced the security situation within the State.
The entire operation went on to mark a massive milestone in sealing Assam’s borders towards regional security.
Besides these, the other two who have been rewarded under the “Investigation” category included Subrata Kumar Sen, Additional Superintendent of Police in Cachar and Amrit Kumar Singha, Officer-in-Charge at Silchar police station for their exemplary work on the much-publicized Jharna Panda murder case in 2022.
The efforts led by these officers provided swift justice to the murder case, which was being highly publicized.
The SIT led by SP Sen, used video footage, and appropriate techniques of investigation to trace three important culprits-Bijay Das, Bikram Das, and Parimal Das-within 48 hours of the crime.
Quick response by the SIT and appropriate investigation resulted in the recovery of a car used in the crime, and a confession by the driver. The case has been closed with such excellence and professionalism that the Assam Police has become synonymous with dedication to public security.
