Assam: In Cachar, police and the 134 Bn Border Security Force (BSF) recovered foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs. 1,71,21,000 (one crore seventy-one lakhs and twenty-one thousand).

How and when it happened
A suspected movement was noticed in the area at around 3.30 a.m. moving certain items from the River Barak into a Mahindra Pick Up Van with the registration number AS01LC 1821, based on specific information.
Attempts were made by the accused to escape the scene.
The arrests
BSF nabbed four persons along with the aforementioned shipment of 43 cartons of foreign cigarettes right away.
Arshad Hussain, MD Firoz Khan, Vivek Kashyav, and Suresh Kumar Sahu are the accused.
Vivek Kashyav and Suresh Kumar Sahu are from Chhattisgarh, while the other two are from Assam’s Cachar area.
Items seized
A total of 43,900 packets of “Gold Flake” Foreign Cigrattes (manufactured in Turkey) were confiscated and recovered by the police, each costing Rs. 390.
The seized items were placed and a FIR was filed at the Lakhipur police station.
Other drug-related cases in Assam
On November 14, othe basis of secret information, Assam police detained a woman in Ritu Kathalguri village, Bordumsa police station, 124 Number Margherita Constituency.
Her possessions contained around 16.40 grammes of suspected Heroin.
Puja Moran, a 23-year-old woman from Margherita in the Tinsukia district, was arrested.
During the investigation, one Scooty with no registration, one Pulsar BR No- AS-23-Q-1266, one Glamour BR No-AS-23-Z-2618, one scooty BR No- AS-23-Z-2221, and one Pulsar BR No- AS-23-X-8389 were seized, according to sources.
