With an investment of Rs. 420 crore, the PWD undertook the monumental task of constructing the flyover on one of Guwahati’s busiest routes, effectively catering to the city’s evolving transportation needs.

Kaziranga flyover
Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has unveiled a grand vision that could transform the landscape of Kaziranga National Park. During the inauguration of the Nilachal Flyover, Sarma revealed plans for a colossal 32-kilometer long flyover in the revered national park. This audacious project aims to create an elevated road corridor within Kaziranga, signaling the state government’s commitment to innovative infrastructure development. Sarma’s announcement highlights the administration’s dedication to progress and preservation.
In his address during the Nilachal Flyover’s inauguration, Chief Minister Sarma offered insight into this ambitious endeavor. “We are planning to construct a 32 km flyover with an elevated corridor, and we believe that very soon we can implement this project in a real sense,” Sarma asserted. The proposed flyover, with its elevated corridor concept, envisions not only enhancing connectivity but also safeguarding the ecological integrity of the Kaziranga National Park.
Elaborating on his government’s broader infrastructure strategy, Sarma also revealed plans for an underground marvel. A tunnel, projected to cost Rs 4000 crores, will be constructed under the Brahmaputra river. In the same discourse, the Chief Minister unveiled another impactful plan – the construction of 1,000 bridges across the state. With the inauguration of the 2.6-kilometer-long Nilachal Flyover, touted as Assam’s longest, Sarma celebrated the completion of 842 small and large bridges that have recently been erected.
